The Flash is Back
Man its great to have The Flash back. It feels like its been years since the mid-season finale but, as usual this show does not disappoint. We kick off the second half of season 2 with a relatively obscure villain in the DC Universe Russell Glosson a.k.a The Turtle. Aaron Douglas’s portrayal of this character was creepy, dark and fantastic and should bring some life into this character on other platforms.
Barry and Patti
The story throughout this episode is keeping secrets, which is a constant theme throughout the Arrow/Flash universe. Barry and Patty’s relationship is getting more serious and its to the point where Barry needs to tell Patty that he is The Flash. Everyone is telling Barry he needs to tell her including Iris and Cisco but Harry puts these thoughts that bring out his fears of loosing Patty to Zoom. But the show is telling you that keeping secrets always have consequences and last nights episode was no different, because Barry never reveals himself as The Flash and thus Patty after experiencing another near death experience (more on that later) decides to take the opportunity at Midway City University to chase here dream. You never know what would have happen but Patty told Barry she wanted to be serious and she could tell that he is still hiding something or being guarded and that was the final straw. This does not mean its over forever for Barry and Patty but for the time being Barry will have to deal with someone else he loves out of his life
Joe and Wally
Meanwhile Wally takes a visit to Central City seemingly to visit and get to know Joe and Iris, but he is very guarded and feels like he was a secret that his detective father did not look into. One thing this show does great is explore Parent-Child relationships. Joe was trying so hard to act like they weren’t apart for 20+ years and Wally was not there for it. Wally was really in Central City to participate in a drag race which we find out that is how he makes extra money to help get his mother treatment. I think Joe and Wally’s relationship will continue to get better as long as Joe understands that its going to take time. The cool thing about these segments this week was the #BlackFatherhood moments of Joe realizing his errors and to try and take it slow. There were also a ton of easter eggs with Wally the fact that he his the “fastest” dragster in Keystone City and that Joe said you made a “fast” trip to Central City. I’m not sure if we will see Wally get his powers this season, but I do think he will become aware of team flash before the end of the season.
The Turtle, Wells and Zoom
The main antagonist of this episode is The Turtle. He is a meta-human that has the ability of taking people’s kinetic energy and turning it into potential energy causing them to essentially move in extremely slow motion. He was a meta that Cisco had been keeping tabs on, but been to busy with bigger threats, because The Turtle has only really been stealing small person items and not really causing serious problems. However, he is important to Team Flash because he may hold the key to stopping Zoom. Cisco believes that they can take Zoom’s speed away by tapping into whatever power Turtle has. Harry hearing that is intrigued because he promised Zoom he would take The Flash speed away in order to get his daughter back. Harry is clearly going though it and is willing to do anything to get his daughter back, but we all know this is not going to go down how we think. They tried to set a trap at an art show to capture Turtle but The Flash was not prepared for the extent of his powers and he barely saves Patty from a falling light that could of killed her. Turtle ends up kidnapping Patty because he believe she is the most important thing to “The Flash” which I think Patty figured out Barry was The Flash at that point and the reason she left is because even after all of that he still could not tell her. The Flash did end of saving Patty by getting enough energy to break through Turtles energy waves, which is telling that Barry is getting faster and that even this may not stop Zoom. At the end of the episode Harry is giving a monologue about the fact that he would do anything for his daughter and sticks this instrument up Turtles nose and takes something out of his brain that he believes will be the key to taking away Barry’s speed.
Oh yeah I forgot Kaitlyn was wearing blue or some sort of “cool” color in every scene this episode, I think the Killa is coming and………… THE REVERSE FLASH IS BACK NEXT WEEK!!!!!!! Check out a preview below!!!
