Nightwing May Be Coming to the DCEU

According to The Hollywood Reporter Chris McKay (Director of Lego Batman) is in talks with Warner Bros to bring Dick Grayson, the first Robin and leader of the Teen Titans to the DCEU in a Live-Action movie in his Nightwing persona. Nothing is confirmed at this point, however it seems likely due to DC/WB’s reliance on Batman related characters and the overall popularity of Nightwing. Dick Grayson who is the original Robin, after years of working along side Batman decided to create his own legacy, moved to Bludhaven and became Nightwing. Nightwing is one of the most popular characters in the DC Universe and fans have been clamoring to see him in live-action for years.

However, the DCEU has had its issues and their movies while being mildly successful in the box office have been an unquestioned critical failure. Also in full disclosure Nightwing is my favorite comic book character and I have no confidence that they would do his move right. I enjoyed Lego Batman (see my review here) however, I don’t trust the executives involved in the DCEU to get this film rights. In recent weeks all the news coming out of DC/WB has been negative, Flash has lost three directors, Ben Affleck dropped out of directing the Batman solo film and rumored to be dropping out of the character itself, Wonder Woman has gotten very little publicity and Justice League leaks show questionable costumes and a flawed storyline. Nobody wants to see DC get it together more than me, however the track record is not good and at this point I would rather Greg Berlanti get an opportunity to create a Nightwing TV show in the Arrowverse as opposed to a live-action big budget film.

At this point all we have is hope and I guess with Chris McKay being at the head gives me a little more optimism, but with DC I’m at a “I will believe it when I see it” mindset with their films and we will see if anything changes with Wonder Woman and Justice League later this year.
