We Are Back!!! #DemThrones is back and what a way to kick off Season 6. We had surprise, shocked, utter destruction, meaninfiul deaths, and some great forshadwoing. Even more than that we got the over arching theme for this season, which is the rise of powerful women. Daenerys, Arya, Sansa, Cersei, Brienne, and Melisandre all had easter eggs dropped to show that they will be badass this season. After some of the feedback the show got last year for their portryaal of women specifially Sansa and Daenerys this is the logical next step and should be very interestesting.
We didn’t spend a lot of time in Kings Landing this week, but we did get to see some Cersei tears (which is always great). The biggest thing to take from the scenes with Jamie and Cersei is that they are on the same page again and will likely rain terror upon the faith militant,
The Sand Snakes and anybody else who has hurt Cersei and her family. Cersei is still one of the most hated characters, but now she has some justification in her mind to continue to be evil, even though most of what happened was her own doing.
There was also a brief scene with Queen Margaery who is still locked up for perjury. The High sparrow seems to be much more comapassionate than the nuns, which could lead to an internal break up in the faith. The High Sparrow told Margaery how much Tommen has been destraught over her incarceration and that Love is just a strong as the faith.
If Tommen gets Margaery out it seems that she has succesfully got him on her side and I would expect to see a more powerful and forceful Tommen this season. It will also be interesting to see how Tommen coming into his own affect Cersei who wants to control things from things from above.
Meanwhile in Hell’s Kitchen Daredevil and Stick are working on their…. Oh my bad wrong show. Arya learning to become a blind ass kicker is so great. They really went full Daredevil though, even down to training with a “stick”.
Arya has been one of the most intriguing characters so far on the show and I imagine her arc this season will be her best so far. As much as she becomes no one, she still has her list of people to kill and this training and learning to respect the many faces will give us a new character that is a total badass.
Meereen and Daenerys
Tyrion and Varys are the best buddy cops on television. Their banter and quick whit is always a bright spot of the show. Even in the darkest times they have a brightness that uplifts the show, but keeps it serious and on topic.
This episode they essentially walked around town assessing the situation that they have. Varys has his spies figuring out who the Harpy is. In the meantime they have to figure out how to stop the whole city from going to war. The former slaves are gathering to rebel and fight against the former owners and the owners are trying to get slavery back while someone torched all the boats in Meereen so even if Daenerys was there she could not goto Kings Landing.
Speaking of Daenerys, she had been captured by a hoard of Dorthraki, who took her back to their new leader Khal Moro. The Dorthraki assumed Dany was just a dumb blonde sex toy and did not realize she understood everything they were saying and that she was the wife of Khal Drogo.
Dany told Khal Moro that she would not be his sex slave and that she was married to Khal Drogo and she burned his body when he died. This immediately changed how she was being treated and Khal Moro said she would be protected, but she would not be escorted back to Meereen because a former Khalessi has one place and thats with the Dorthraki.
Last we saw Sansa and Theon they were escaping the Boltons castle. Well they didn’t get to far before the Boltons army found them. Theon tried to give a distraction but it did not work at all. Just before the Army could get Theon and Sansa, Brienne and Padrig show up and whoop those soldiers ass. Even Theon got a kill in at the end.
Brienne, who is probably the most noble character on the show finally was able to achieve one her goals and bent a knee to Sansa vowing to be her knight and protect her from here on out. Sansa in her first act of leadership went through the formal Oath and is set to move forward in her quest to hopefully become Wardeness of the North. I would assume Brienne tells her that Arya is still alive which would give her more confidence and hope moving forward.
Ramsay was as despicable as he was funny. He finally showed a bit of a heart after learning of Miranda dying but then quickly switched up and told he people to cook her and serve her to the dogs because she is “Good Meat” LMAO its going to be so good when he dies, at this point its going to be better than Joffery’s death.
The Bolton’s are in an interesting predicament because without Sansa they cannot control the north and as a result Ramsay may loose his spot in the family lineage. I expect things to get much worse before we get the oh so satisfying death of Roose and Ramsay Bolton.
In what seemed to be the biggest shocker in this first episode, the Martell’s are dead. Ellaria and the Sand Snakes plotted to and succeeded in killing King Doran and Prince Trystane. This was unexpected and sudden and will have huge repercussions across Westeros. Again aligning with the theme Ellaria said Dorne would never be ruled again by a weak man. This seems like a Ellaria will take over as Queen and likely start a war with the Lannisters and Kings Landing.
A full on Dorne vs. Kings Landing war will probably not end will for the Sand Snakes especially with Mountainstein on the prowl. But, another interaction between Bronn and Tyene will undoubtedly be great.
That moment in the jail cell last season was probably the sexiest moment on the show so far.
Now the moment we have all been waiting for. Is Jon Snow really dead? Whelp, we still don’t know and I love it. When the Walking Dead left everybody hanging on their season finale, it was the funniest thing I have saw on TV in a long time, but also very affective. I think they will prolong this Jon Snow reveal for two main reasons. First, if you bring him back early it takes away a little from the narrative the show is putting out of “Woman Power”. Secondly, they know we are watching so they can do what they want.
That being said the biggest surprise or WTF moment of the show is the reveal that Melisandre is not who she portrays. She has been going through a downward spiral ever since sacrificing Shireen to the Lord of Light and nothing to come of it. Now we see that he necklace has some kind of youth spell than when its removed shows he true self, which appears to be a 200 year old woman.
I expect to see her put on a redemption arc this season as well ultimately culminating in the resurrection of Jon Snow. Most show watchers think this is what is going to happen, so I would be surprised if we get a twist somewhere in here, but her character has always been interesting and “hot” so this turn of events should bring about many more questions about her powers and background.
