Danny Lays Down the Law

thrones

A lot of this episode was setup for whats to come next, and the most intriguing of that setup involves Daenerys and her play for the throne. He new small council has been helpful so far, but they all have questionable motives and past that Danny was concerned about. Tyrion is a Lannister, Varys is a spy who turned on two kings, the Sand Snakes poison innocent people and the Tyrells recently had a connection with Cersei. Daenerys made it clear that although she is working with all of them she is not 100% trustful of them and essentially made Varys prove his worth. In an fascinating scene Danny and Varys both make great points on both sides of the argument and eventually Danny takes his word, not without warning of death by Dragon fire.

In the Game of Thrones you will make have to make some unlikely allies and no other than Mellisandre shows up to talk about her prophecy and the king of the north Jon Snow. Tyrion vouches for Jon based their interaction going to the wall and pleads with Daenerys to meet with Jon and hear him out. Apprehensive at first, Danny agrees with the caveat that Jon bends the knee upon arrival. This is a moment so many Game of Thrones fans have been waiting for, the day Danny and Jon meet up and it appears to be happening next week. Will Jon bend the knee? Will Daenerys help Jon fight the White Walkers? When will Jon’s true heritage be known? All these questions an more are coming from that meeting, not to mention how will Danny and the crew react to Yara’s fleet getting demolished by Euron.

Speaking of Jon, he had his own disagreements with his council on his next steps. He received two ravens one from Daenerys and one from Samuel, both leading him to Dragonstone. He tries to explain that there is a mountain of Dragon Glass under Dragonstone and that they have no chance to beat the White Walkers without it, also Daenerys has dragons so if he can convince her to help in the fight then that would improve there chances of defeating the Army of the Dead. These idiots in the meeting were so hung up no past beefs and last names that they were willing to give up that Dragon Glass over some petty grudges. Jon basically told them that he is here to stop this threat, he don’t care about being king of the north, he and Davos are going to Dragonstone and Sansa will be Queen until he returns. He also had to set LittleFinger straight when he insinuated that he was trying to get with Sansa. LittleFinger is playing the Game of Thrones maybe the best, and now with Sansa in power is going to attempt to manipulate her to turning on Jon and going after the Iron throne herself. All this while Arya runs into hot pie and realized that Jon is now King of the North with Sansa and she decides to head home instead of killing Cersei. Of course in total Stark fashion Jon will be on his way to Dragonstone, but hopefully Arya can talk some sense into Sansa and maybe have a sister team-up to set LittleFinger straight.

Sam’s About to get his PhD

thrones

Back in Old Town, Sam is still asking a million questions and trying to take his training wheels off. We catch up with him and the other Maester in Sir Jorah’s room where his greyscale has spread all over his body and his time is numbered. Sam learning that Jorah is the son of Jeor Mormount the former Lord Commander of the Knights Watch and takes special interest in his case. In that book on Dragon glass that Sam snuck out last week, it had some information on curing greyscale and he also so some experimental techniques in another book that the Maester who did it died, so it was banned. Sam being the typical really smart dude who does not listen, sneaks into Jorah’s room before he probably was going to kill himself and starts to perform this technique of peeling off each scale one by one. I assume the dragon glass is going to come into play next week in the treatment, but Sam is starting to become one of the smartest and most important characters on the show. If he learns how to cure greyscale and stop the Army of the Dead he will be essential to everything that is about to happen going forward.

Cersei is Still Winning The Game of Thrones

thrones

Cersei is back in Kings Landing bitching about Daenerys and her quest and is trying to gain new alliances. Qybyrn takes her down to the keep and shows her the giagantic skull of Aegon’s dragon as well as an ancient Targaryen weapon used to kill dragons. It looked like a giant cross bow, and Qybryn vowed to make a modern version of this weapon and have it in time to fight off Daenery’s dragons. Meanwhile Jamie understands that Cersei is not quite right so he tries to make alliances with the Tarley’s to fight on their side, but Sam’s dad is somewhat weary to join up with Jamie.

Meanwhile, last we saw Cersei she was talking to Euron, who promised her a gift and as expected that gift was Yara and the Sand Snakes. Euron and his fleet ambushed Yara in an unbelivable fight scene that was not expected this early in the season, and almost got a flawless victory. Euron looked like a crazed evil maniac and ran threw Yara’s crew and captured the sand snakes as a “gift” for Cersei. Euron thinks Cersei may marry him based on this, which is probably a long shot, however she should be pleased to get the people who killed her daughter and I expect some permanent alliance to take form between Euron and Cersei.

thrones

In the Middle of this fight, Euron captured Yara and Theon had a chance to try and save her and fight his uncle, at this point everyone watching the show should have known what was about to happen, but I saw some people on twitter cheering for Theon. Theon looked around and through his facial expressions essentially turned back into Reek and jumped off the ship and bailed. I never understood why people were cheering for Theon and though that he was a good person, before Ramsey cut his dick off he was still a terrible person who turned on his family, killed innocent kids and turned on the Starks who basically took him in as one of their own. Reek, which is what he will be referred to on this site going forward is one of the most gutless and despicable characters on the show and the scene brought all those feeling back.
