Will The Real Batman Please Stand Up

Bruce

The BatSuit Closet

Coming out of Endgame Snyder decided to take Batman in a interesting direction. With Bruce’s apparent death Jim Gordon took over the mantle of Batman which lead to a new and dangerous super villain by the name of Mr. Bloom started to take over the city. Although the run with Jim as Batman was different I think all readers expected Bruce Wayne to put the cowl back on at some point. Bruce had been brainwashed so to speak, and lost all memories of his previous life including that of Batman. Everyone close to Bruce wanted him to never get those memories back and to continue his new life with his girlfriend and doing his community work in light and not in the darkness like Batman.
Unfortunately, Mr. Bloom would terrorize the city and after the destruction of the new Batman and a conversation with what readers could only assume is a brainwashed Joker Bruce realized that he was Batman and that he had to become Batman again.

Snyder is Amazing

This issue takes you on a journey of redemption as well as persistence. Snyder is able to tell the story that Bruce being Batman is as important to Bruce as it is to the survival of Gotham. He also is able to conclude this epic arc of Mr. Bloom with devastation and triumph and the fight that the ALL the HEROES in Gotham have. Jim, Julia, Geri, GCPD and Duke all had to do their part to save the city but Batman was the ultimate inspiration. Towards the end of the book Jim Gordon gives a powerful monologue on why we love Super Heroes and its something that all comic book fans can relate too and will love. Its sad to see that Snyder is leaving the book but this story arc to bring Bruce back as Batman was fantastic and should setup the book well going forward into REBIRTH.
